For the seventh time in 11 years, a DNR project has taken home an Excellence in GIS Award from the annual Indiana GIS Conference.

Three members of the Division of Engineering—director, Dale Gick, as well as Deb Kuehn, and Jomary Baller—were honored for their DNR Owned Dams Viewer Project, which won the Excellence in GIS Award in the state or federal agency division.

The DNR Dam Viewer was created as a central location for dam-related information, including location. The project included gathering the information, putting together a GIS dataset, then creating a browser-based application for DNR staff to easily find the information.

The DNR owns about 100 regulated dams at 40 different DNR properties throughout the state.
