Residents Invited To Take Favorite Places Survey

Area residents are invited to take a brief, online survey about their favorite places. The survey is available by visiting www.fwcommunitydevelopment.org/survey.

The survey asks people to consider their favorite place, such as a park, lake or coffee shop. Then, the survey will ask questions about what makes that place attractive. The information will help determine the amenities local people like to enjoy in public spaces, such as nature, art or social activities.

The survey is part of the Public Space / Public Life project, which is being led by Gehl, an internationally recognized architecture and urban design firm. Gehl is working with the City of Fort Wayne to analyze how residents and visitors use downtown public spaces and to recommend ways to make public spaces more attractive and enjoyable. Suggestions could include everything from more seating and lighting to bike lanes and public art. The end goal is to create a place that is memorable, enjoyable and accessible for residents and visitors.

The Public Space / Public Life project is being primarily funded by the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne/Knight Foundation. The City of Fort Wayne is providing support and additional funding.

Gehl was founded in 2000 with the goal of creating cities for people. Their work includes the transformation of New York’s Times Square into a gathering space for people to walk, socialize, bike and rest. To learn more about Gehl, visit www.gehlpeople.com.
