Celebrating 150 Years Of German Culture Through Song

This year the Fort Wayne Maennerchor/ Damenchor is proudly “Celebrating its 150th year of German Culture through Song”. Throughout these years the Maennerchor/ Damenchor has presented free concerts, opened to the public, in which we sing traditional German songs in the German language. We also serve German foods at our periodic dinners and enjoy Fish Frys every month, for nominal costs, all open to the public.

Throughout this year of Celebration, we will be holding special events and occasions with an invitation to the community to come and celebrate with us. We hope you will be watching for these upcoming announcements.

First among these events is our Fruelingsfest (Spring Festival) held on Saturday, March 23rd, at our clubhouse, Park Edelweiss, at 3355 Elmhurst Drive. Doors open at 5:00 PM. The evening will begin at 6:00 PM with an authentic German Schlachtfest (Bratwurst) dinner with sour kraut and all the trimmings. The cost is adults, $12.00/children $6.00. The dinner will be followed by a Choral concert with 35 voices of the Ft. Wayne Maennerchor/ Damenchor, directed by Thomas Remenschneider, former director of the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic Chorus. A highlight of the evening is the presentation of winners of an essay contest for local high school German students answering the question, how knowledge of German heritage/culture has impacted the student. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded.

Aging & In-Home Services Plans Move To Larger Headquarters

Aging & In-Home Services of Northeast Indiana, Inc. (AIHS) is relocating its corporate headquarters from 2927 Lake Avenue to 8101 W. Jefferson Blvd. The relocation is expected to begin this spring.

Located about 10 miles west of the current AIHS office, the new building was previously occupied by Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana and is located near the corner of West Jefferson Boulevard and Interstate 69 allowing for accessibility to the nine-county service area.

Some 110 AIHS employees will occupy all 27,000 square feet of the new office, with space for future growth and expansion of current service lines.

The current properties at 2927 and 3003 Lake Avenue will undergo renovation to allow for growth in AIHS’ integrated care program. “We look forward to introducing an innovative model of integrated care for Medicare and Medicaid-eligible clients utilizing an interdisciplinary team approach to their acute and long-term care services,” said AIHS President and CEO Connie Benton Wolfe.

Heritage Park Assisted Living Community Receives A Deficiency-Free Rating

Heritage Park Assisted Living Community has received a deficiency-free rating for the fifth consecutive time during their annual state inspection. The designation is received by only a small percentage of senior living communities and being awarded a perfect score for five concurrent years is a stellar achievement.

Heritage Park is operated by American Senior Communities and is located at 2001 Hobson Road, Ft Wayne In, 46805. In addition to their Assisted Living Community, they serve seniors and others in need of independent living, rehabilitation, memory care, skilled nursing and hospice services.

Greg Hevel, General Manager for Heritage Park’s Assisted Living community reflected on their recent achievement, "It’s all about the TEAM and being committed to providing our residents and their families the care they deserve."

Compassion, Accountability, Relationships and Excellence are the core values for American Senior Communities. These words not only form the acronym CARE, they are ASC’s guiding principles and create the framework for all of our relationships with customers, team members, families and the community at large.

“We are so proud of and grateful to our team at Heritage Park for living out these values in an exceptional way. Without this team’s high level of dedication and commitment, a deficiency-free survey five times in a row would not be possible.” said David Stordy, ASC’s COO.

Japanese Men’s National Goalball Team Training At Turnstone February 17th – 22nd

Three athletes and two coaches from the Japanese Men’s National Goalball team arrived at Turnstone on February 17th to train with the U.S. Men’s Goalball team. The Japanese men’s team will be staying in the goalball houses across the street during training and will leave February 22nd when the U.S. Men’s team will travel to Michigan for a tournament.

The Japanese men’s team has already qualified for the Paralympics in Tokyo 2020 as the host country and therefore will not be attending the upcoming 2019 IBSA Goalball and Judo International Qualifier event held here in Fort Wayne this upcoming summer. However, this is a great opportunity for the U.S. Men’s team to scrimmage and train with an opposing country in preparation for the International Qualifier.

The Executive Director of USABA, Mark Lucas, said, “It is imperative for our athletes to gain international experience while preparing for the International Qualifier being hosted in Fort Wayne, IN this summer. Japan is a tough team and will give us great practice and an extra edge for future competitions. We [USABA & Turnstone] are excited to host this opportunity for our athletes.”
