Ivy Tech FW To Host Black History Month Events

In honor of Black History Month, Ivy Tech Community College’s Fort Wayne Campus is hosting four college and community events. All events are free and will be held on Ivy Tech Fort Wayne’s North Campus, 3701 Dean Dr., Fort Wayne, IN 46805.

Munch & Movie: The Hate U Give

11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 5

Student Life Building, room 121

Munch & Movie featuring “The Hate U Give” (2018) based on the critically acclaimed New York Times bestselling book of the same name. This hard-hitting film is about a teenage girl who grapples with racism, police brutality and activism after witnessing her black friend murdered by the police. Lunch will be served and topics discussed after the movie.

Celebrate African-American literary achievement by publicly reading the works of your favorite black writers, artists, thinkers and creatives. This event will be held in an open mic format with lunch served.

Dr. Max Montesino, Purdue University Fort Wayne Associate Professor will present an in-depth discussion about the impact of African values, attitudes and behaviors on the formation of Latin American cultures. He will pay special attention to the cross-cultural mixtures in South America, Central America and the Caribbean and how Latinos in the U.S. reflect that cultural heritage. Presentation from 12-1pm.
