Youth Performance Set For July 28 At Embassy Theatre

The Embassy Theatre will present a stage performance of its SCORE! educational program on Sunday, July 28, at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the STAR Bank box office at the Embassy, TicketMaster.com and 800.745.3000. Tickets are $8 and $6 (ages 65 and over as well as for 18 and under) plus applicable fees.

In its seventh year, SCORE! is a three-week devised musical theater workshop that immerses middle school students in all elements of theater. Devised theater is a term used to describe a mode of theater-making that does not begin with a script. Instead, students create a script by exploring the process of thematic and artistic exploration.

This year’s performance is named But Wait … There’s More, a title created by the program’s youth participants. The group also named its group the Act It Out Theatre Company.

For the first time, there are a number of participants who play musical instruments. There will be an ensemble that will provide music throughout the show, playing instruments such as saxophone, French horn, guitar, cello, violin and ukulele.

The SCORE! 2019 workshop started July 8 and culminates July 28 with the final performance on the Embassy Theatre stage. During the three weeks, the students were immersed in play-writing, drama, music, production and technical arts. The 2019 workshop attracted 23 participants in grades 6, 7 and 8.

“Our participants at SCORE! this year can’t wait to tell you their stories. This is a dynamic group of young artists who have created a musical theatre ensemble show that is funny, thought-provoking and just magic,” said Maggie Hunter, Embassy education manager. “Our young artists this year are incredibly talented. The Embassy is proud to offer this opportunity for middle-school students in the region.”

Scholarships were made possible with support from PNC Bank, The Links and Franklin Garage.

“Engagement in the arts enriches the lives of audiences of all ages and builds stronger, more vibrant communities,” said Corinna Ladd, PNC regional president for northern Indiana. “This unique workshop is one of many educational opportunities offered by the Embassy Theatre and showcases student appetite for a vibrant role in the arts and drama.”

Support for SCORE! comes from the National Endowment for the Arts and the William J. and Bonnie L. Hefner Foundation. In-kind support was provided by 323 Media, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, NOLA on 13 and Taco Bell.
