Time To Clean Up

It’s been a long snowy and windy winter in Fort Wayne, which has resulted in trash and debris littering our roadways, ditches, neighborhoods and along the riverbanks. It’s time to clean up our city to get ready for outdoor spring activities!

Residents, families, churches, youth organizations and schools are invited to make a difference in their community and neighborhoods by participating in the annual Great American Cleanup™–the nation’s largest community improvement program.

This year’s Great American Cleanup™ is on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Volunteers are asked to pre-register so that the City can accommodate them with event tee-shirts, gloves, and trash bags.

Individuals, families and groups can register at: www.cityoffortwayne.org/greatamericancleanup or call 427-1345, no later than Friday, April 5.

Staff members from the city’s Solid Waste Department will coordinate and assign locations to ensure areas with the most need are addressed, but groups may pick an area of their choice if they have identified a location. The clean-up process will begin between 8 and 9 AM on May 4.

The Great American Cleanup™ is the country’s largest beautification and community improvement effort. Nationwide, there were more than three million volunteers last year. Fort Wayne’s clean-up efforts focus on neighborhoods, vacant lots, trails and greenways, graffiti removal, streets and roads, and our rivers. The event provides a great opportunity for neighborhood associations, church groups, service organizations, youth groups, schools, and all residents to make a difference in their community.
