A Day Of Healing

Due to its success last year, I Am Garvey Inc. again partnered with Lutheran Health Network to host our Second Annual Unity Day Weekend on March 22 and March 23. The organizations have rallied together and are providing free tickets for area youth and families to the March 22nd Komets game and March 23rd Mad Ants game. “Last year, we took 50 individuals to bowling at Thunder Bowl. We were able to provide them with pizza, drinks and a ticket to a Komets game for A Day of Healing. Everyone that we took were family members of local murder victims.

One week later, we took 89 youths and adults from several youth organizations to Pizza Hut for food and drinks, #ITSTARTSWITHME t-shirts and a ticket to a Mad Ants game for A Day of Unity. “It touched my heart that we were able to share some positivity and support during their time of grief, to let them know their community is here for them,” said I Am Garvey Inc. co-founder Ty Simmons. He went on to say, “It is our hope to be able to do this again this year but we need your support and efforts.”

I Am Garvey Inc. is a social, cultural, economic and educational organization that aspires to feed, cloth, provide access to healthcare, employ, educate, and provide vocational programs to the residents of the community. One of our most successful programs is our Human Agricultural Cooperative’s #ITSTARTSWITHME youth farming program. Over the last three years, we have trained over 25 youths in a variety of Urban farming procedures and techniques. Our youths learned how to sample and test the land and water, prepare for planting, planting, maintenance, harvest, donating food to charity and selling our produce at local farmers markets and the community. In the last three years, we have donated over 8,000 pounds of food to local residents and organizations.

The organization is seeking donations and sponsorships from businesses in the community. If you are interested in contributing please contact: iamgarvey2016. You will be recognized along with the other businesses that have already given support; Lutheran Health Network, JAVA, Freeman’s Clean Sweep and Oh Def Network.
