With pet owners in tow, dogs everywhere are invited to take a 1 mile walk through Franke Park as part of the 31st Walk for Animals to help fight animal neglect and cruelty through education and community outreach. This year’s event will be held on Sunday, September 9. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the walk begins at Noon.
This year, participants will be walking in honor of Joan of Arc, now known as Jaynee. Jaynee’s story with Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control started in May of 2017. We received a call from the Indiana State Board of Health about 16 dogs in deplorable conditions at a breeder’s home in a neighboring county and they needed our help. What our staff found was appalling. Jaynee was fenced into a kennel with another dog with no way out and no access to water. Fearful, Jaynee and the other dogs were brought back to the shelter, assessed and eventually put into adoptions. Jaynee is now living her best life with her loving family!
Stories like Jaynee’s are why we hold this event and work to end animal cruelty and neglect through humane education programs. Money raised will go to our Humane Education department to help fund educational programs for area schools, scout groups and youth organizations. We also will use the funds to continue our summer camps to teach compassion and empathy through animals.
Show your support for animals like Jaynee by registering to Walk with your family today! Registration for adults is $30 and children under 12 are just $10 to register. Every person registered gets a t-shirt and new this year – each dog will get a bandana! If you’d like to walk with friends or family to represent a business, school or your favorite group you can register as a Dog Pack! Each member of a Dog Pack must register as an individual first.
We encourage everyone to collect and raise money for the event. We will have fantastic prizes for the top pledge earners!
You can register online at www.fwacc.org under the Events tab or at the Walk on Sept. 9. Pledges can be submitted at the Walk. Come enjoy snacks, vendors and the animals all while helping a great cause!
