PHP Board Of Directors Names Don Schenkel Interim CEO

Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana, Inc. (PHP), a local employee benefits organization, has announced Don Schenkel, will assume responsibility as interim CEO May 29, 2018. Mike Cahill, outgoing CEO will remain through June in an advisory role until he takes a position with Ruoff Home Mortgage, Fort Wayne, IN. PHP has begun an immediate search for a new Chief Executive Officer.

Don Schenkel

Don Schenkel, former CEO of Tower Financial Corporation, a state-chartered banking firm, has been a member of PHP’s board of directors since 2004. Schenkel is a highly experienced, respected executive who will lead PHP as it continues to evolve and grow. Over the last decade, Schenkel has advised the company and has helped transform PHP to a total employee benefits company with a focus on growing value across an increasingly wide variety of products and services.

Don’s statement: "Over the past 3-plus years, our team has increased the number of people we serve by more than 50% and positioned ourselves for significant continued growth while building an extremely sound financial foundation. PHP’s capital now stands at 6 times the state mandated minimum requirement*, which is double where this stood at the end of 2014. We have great confidence in the people and systems that have been put in place and our board and executive leadership team remain in place."

Mike Cahill has been CEO of PHP since February of 2015, and has been a driving force in transforming PHP for long-term sustainable success. Under Cahill’s leadership PHP has reinvigorated company growth by diversifying business lines and strengthening strategic direction while expanding PHP’s administrative services through the acquisition of Pro-Claim Plus, Inc. “I feel fortunate to have worked with the PHP team these past 3-plus years. During this time, we have increased lives covered by more than 50%, our employee total by almost 70%, and our capital has grown more than 25%. I am excited to watch PHP continue to grow and evolve,” Cahill stated.
