River Levels Adjusted This Weekend

Flashboard installation at the St. Joe Dam will occur this weekend. To accommodate safe installation water levels on the St. Joe River upstream of the dam will be temporarily lowered beginning on Saturday, May 5, 2018. The lowering allows the dam’s spillway to dry for the safe installation of the flashboards.

Weather permitting, the installation will occur on Monday, May 7, and river levels should return to normal by Thursday of next week. A delay may happen if it is raining on Monday and the spillway is wet.

City Utilities installs flashboards in the spring to raise the level of the river north of the dam to increase the amount of water held behind the dam. The practice ensures that Fort Wayne has an adequate supply of water during peak summer months.
