NIPSCO Provides Hope For The Holidays With Gift To Community Harvest Food Bank

Through NIPSCO’s “Hope for the Holidays” initiative, a $25,000 gift was presented to Community Harvest Food Bank in support of hunger relief. Through this generous donation, more than 1,000 families in northeast Indiana will receive holiday meals. Turkeys, holiday sides, and other food items will be distributed through the Community Cupboard pantry to families coping with illness and medical burdens, as well as other hardships.

In addition, more than 30 NIPSCO volunteers distributed food to families in need during Community Harvest’s Saturday Helping Hands food distribution. Each week on average, 700 families receive produce, dairy, sandwich bread, and other available food items. NIPSCO’s donation and volunteer efforts support hunger relief in northeast Indiana by providing nutritious foods and Hope for the Holidays.

“NIPSCO has been an incredible partner and supporter of hunger relief for more than 25 years,” said Carmen Cumberland, Community Harvest Executive President. “For those struggling to put food on the table, the holidays can be an especially difficult time. Their donation and volunteerism directly impacts families throughout the region, and from the bottom of our hearts, we thank NIPSCO.”

“Hunger affects families in many ways, and this is an incredible opportunity to bring ‘Hope for the Holidays’ to people right here in northeast Indiana,” said Dana Berkes, NIPSCO Public Affairs Manager. “NIPSCO is proud to give back to the community in support of hunger relief.”

Community Harvest’s holiday voucher program, sponsored by NIPSCO, distributes vouchers to partner nonprofit agencies throughout northeast Indiana. Vouchers are then distributed to families in need, and each entitles a family to a turkey plus 50 pounds of food from the Community Cupboard pantry at Community Harvest Food Bank. Notable partner agencies include Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne Healthier Moms & Babies, The League, Turnstone, and many others.
