Banks visited the DaVita Fort Wayne West Dialysis Center on March 3rd to meet patients, caregivers and to better understand the kidney care needs of local residents.

Today, there are over 26 million American adults who are living with chronic kidney disease (CKD), which, untreated, can ultimately prog ess to kidney failure. Currently, more than 600,000 Americans suffer from end stage renal disease (ESRD) and approximately 430,000 are on dialysis. An overwhelming majority of people with ESRD on dialysis rely on Medicares ESRD benefit.

DaVita Kidney Care invited Rep. Banks to tour the dialysis center, meet patients and teammates and learn more about kidney disease.

Access to high-quality health care is critical, and it was encouraging today to see the work being done right here at DaVita Fort Wayne West Dialysis, said Rep. Banks. Congress will be considering many important public policy issues that impact kidney care and patients here in Indiana this year. People with complex chronic conditions, such as kidney disease, could experience improved outcomes and quality of life. Yesterdays visit by Rep. Banks took on additional significance as the dialysis community prepares to increase public awareness of kidney disease and the availability of resources to help maintain kidney health and quality of life during National Kidney Month in March.
