George R. Mather Sunday Lecture Shares Local History Of Oil And Natural Gas

When the Lima-Indiana oil and natural gas field was discovered in 1884, it was the first of many wells that would change the shape of Indiana from a collection of small agrarian communities to one of bustling centers of industry. The Lima-Indiana would be a critical bridge between the then dwindling Pennsylvania oil fields and the yet to be discovered giant oil fields in Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma and California.

Join Chuck Knox Sunday, April 3 at 2:00pm as he shares The Discovery, Development, and Abandonment of the Lima-Indiana, the World’s First Giant Oil & Natural Gas Field.

The George R. Mather Sunday Lecture Series is free and open to the public.
