As one of more than 200 councils of Girls on the Run (GOTR) International, GOTR of Allen County is a is a 501(c)3 nonprofit serving 8- to 11-year-old girls in Northeast Indiana. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. GOTR of Northeast Indiana hosts twice-weekly team meetings in 10 regional locations. At the end of each 10-week session, each girl is paired with an adult “running buddy.” Together, the girls and buddies participate in a celebratory 5k to culminate the season – giving each girl a tangible sense of achievement and a belief that she CAN.
About Girls on the Run and our 5K: The Girls on the Run of Northeast Indiana 5K is not just a 5K run/walk, but a HUGE CELEBRATION of what we can achieve when we decide on a goal and put in the work required to achieve it. This event honors the 3rd through 5th grade spring 2016 Girls on the Run participants, who have trained for 10 weeks to complete their first 5K. EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE–You don’t need to be a Girls on the Run participant to run! We’ll have a "happy hair" station, a D.J., music, a "Mascot Dash," a poster-making station, and some surprises to help you keep your eye on the prize! Tutus are welcome! Guys are, too! 100% of the proceeds from this race benefit Girls on the Run of Northeast Indiana. This year and last year we were able to give FREE running shoes because some of our girls were running in flats that they were to school.
