Your feedback is sought on a series of new trail wayfinding signs. This month, 23 Wayfinding signs were placed on the section of the Pufferbelly Trail- between Washington Center and Union Chapel Road.

The initiative is led by the Northeast Indiana Regional Coordinating Council (NIRCC) to brand trails throughout northeast Indiana.

Four years ago, one of the emerging goals of the Regional Cities initiative was to grow the trail network throughout the 11-county northeast Indiana region. Realizing that as trail networks expand, trail users would want to connect beyond city and county boundaries, NIRCC began working with the region to brand the more extensive network and provide wayfinding information.

This stretch of the Pufferbelly is part of the State of Indiana Visionary Trail, known as the Poka-Bache Trail. The 82-mile trail will connect users from Pokagon State Park in Angola to Ouabache State Park in Bluffton and connects four counties with a combined population of more than 485 thousand residents. Wayfinding signs are a necessary element as trail users roam trails that are not familiar. Currently, 34.3 miles of the Poka-Bache is complete.

The signs are part of a pilot project funded by NIRCC and installed by the City of Fort Wayne and Allen County.

NIRCC and the City are looking for feedback on the signs and are asking trail users to email greenways@cityoffortwayne.org.
