Parkview Health Enters Agreement To Fund A Full-Time Nursing Faculty Member

Parkview Health is partnering with Ivy Tech Community College Fort Wayne to address a shortage of registered nurses in the community by providing a nursing instructor to Ivy Tech’s School of Nursing beginning Fall 2019. Parkview will pay the salary and benefits of the instructor, who will act as a full-time faculty member at Ivy Tech Fort Wayne.

“The nationwide nursing shortage is impacting healthcare employers everywhere, including northeast Indiana,” says Dena Jacquay, chief community and human resources officer, Parkview Health. “We are excited to partner with Ivy Tech on this unique approach to nursing education and look forward to playing a role in preparing area nurses to provide quality care for our community.”

This partnership will result in an increase of 30 students for Ivy Tech Fort Wayne’s Nursing Program during the 2019–20 academic year. Due to accreditation requirements and quality standards, Ivy Tech would have been unable to accept additional students into the nursing program without this additional faculty member.

“We are very grateful for Parkview Health and our advisory committee members who are innovative problem solvers and willing to support the School of Nursing’s growth,” says Nadeena Frye, dean of the School of Nursing. “This is a win-win for our community, as it will provide even more graduates to fill the ever-growing need for nurses.”

In 2018–19, total enrollment for the nursing program was 304 students. With the increase this donation will bring, the total enrollment is projected to be 334 nursing students in 2019–20.

Students in Ivy Tech’s nursing program can earn an Associate of Science (ASN) Degree or Practical Nursing (PN) Certificate. Learn about the program, earning potential, and job outlook at IvyTech.edu/nursing
