Safety Awareness At Franke Park Elementary School

Mayor Tom Henry today joined the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) as leaders with the department presented Officer Phil, an educational safety awareness program, to first-third grade students at Franke Park Elementary School.

The Officer Phil program uses innovative and entertaining techniques to teach children about stranger danger, the negative effects of bullying, online safety, and respect for authority figures. The program also encourages positive behavior such as honesty, friendship, civic responsibility, and knowing what to do in an emergency.

The FWPD visits dozens of elementary schools within Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS) each year to present the Officer Phil program as a way to help children learn the importance of safety and how to become a better citizen.

The Officer Phil program has been in place for 12 years and is financed by the Fort Wayne business community that sees the value in partnering with the FWPD and FWCS to help ensure the safety of students. Their financial sponsorships have totaled $600,000 as we impact over 17,000 students yearly with the Officer Phil program.

Officer Phil is a partnership between the FWPD and Creative Safety Products.
