Advancing Voices of Women (AVOW) will sponsor the second annual Women’s Campaign Institute August 2-4, 2019, on the campus of Indiana Tech.
Designed for women who are seriously interested in running for elected office, the nonpartisan institute will prepare women with insight into topics such as drafting a campaign story, avoiding expensive mistakes, overcoming self-doubt, understanding campaign law, bouncing back from loss, public speaking, and campaign finances and fundraising. Part of the Paul Helmke School for Women in Public Life, the institute’s presenters will include:
. Paul Helmke, director of the Civic Leaders Living-Learning Center at Indiana University . Sara Jane Rose, founder and executive director of Sally’s List of Oklahoma
. Patricia Russo, executive director of the Women’s Campaign School at Yale University
. Jill Long Thompson, former U.S. Congresswoman, Indiana 3rd District, and associate clinical professor, SPEA, Indiana University
. Marilyn Moran-Townsend, CEO, CVC Communications, and AVOW Women’s Campaign Institute co-chair
. Brenda Gerber Vincent, vice president of community and corporate impact of Greater Fort Wayne Inc. and former deputy finance director for the “Mike Pence for Indiana” campaign
. Jeff Brantley, VP Political Affairs, Indiana Chamber of Commerce and the Indiana Business for Responsive Government PAC

“We are so fortunate to have this world-class training available for women who will earn important leadership positions in government,” said AVOW co-founder and Women’s Campaign Institute co-chair Marilyn Moran-Townsend. “Graduates of the first Women’s Campaign Institute have already made us proud as candidates in the 2019 and 2020 elections. Women who know how to bring people together by working across political and ideological differences are vital to good government.”
“When I worked with the women at the 2018 AVOW training, I was incredibly impressed by their enthusiastic participation and commitment to preparing themselves for the electoral process,” said Sara Jane Rose, founder and executive director of Sally’s List of Oklahoma. “I am honored and excited to be working with the second AVOW class of female candidates in August.”
Interested women should submit a resume and apply online by May 31 at http://www.avowfw.com. The institute fee is $550, which will be defrayed by scholarships for accepted applicants, except for $50. The fee includes training, meals and materials for the applicant and her campaign manager or chief volunteer.
