Nationally Recognized Artist To Headline Unique “PechaKucha” Event

The City of Fort Wayne Public Art Commission and Arts United are inviting all residents to a PechaKucha event designed to explore various forms of public art. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, March 26 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Arts United Center/Rolland Gallery, 303 E. Main St.

Light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available. Admission is free but residents are asked to RSVP via Facebook lauren.

PechaKucha, or as some people say, PK, is a simple presentation method where speakers follow the format of showing 20 images and speaking about each for 20 seconds. The format was devised by two architects at Klein Dytham architecture and is used globally as a way for people to present creative ideas in a succinct and engaging way.

The keynote speaker for Fort Wayne’s PK event is Marc Pally, a nationally recognized leader for the development and management of public art projects. His personal artwork may be found in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Orange County Museum of Art; and the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art, among others.

Six local artists will speak at the event in the PK format:

  • Rena Bradley,
  • Adrian Curry,
  • Sayaka Ganz,
  • Alexandra Hall,
  • Jim Merz, and
  • Tim Parsley.

The City of Fort Wayne Public Art Commission and Arts United are hosting this event to kick off the planning process for the Fort Wayne Public Art Master Plan. Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry and the City Council created the Public Art Program and Public Art Commission in March, 2018. The Public Art Program’s mission is to promote and integrate public art throughout the city while the Art Commission reviews and selects art to be displayed in public spaces. The goal is to enhance the visual environment and strengthen the positive reputation, brand and stature of Fort Wayne and its neighborhoods. For more information, visit www.FortWaynePublicArt.com.
