Honor Flight Northeast Indiana is encouraging all veterans from the Korean conflict to send in their application to participate on a future Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
“The time is now” states Dennis Covert, President of HFNEI. “There are countless veterans from this era who are refraining from completing their applications. Whether they feel that someone is more deserving, or the timing hasn’t been right, every man and woman who donned the uniform is not only eligible, but deserves to go,” said Covert. “You did not have to serve during battle or in theater. Even if you served stateside during your entire enlistment, you are still fully eligible for an Honor Flight.”
Veterans spend the day in Washington reflecting upon the memorials built in their honor. They share the flight with their peers and a guardian creating and reliving memories. They enjoy visiting seven memorials, a bus tour around Washington, and receive deserving accolades and gratitude from men, women, and children throughout the day.
Lieutenant Colonel John Steinbeck, a 40-year Army veteran who served through Korea, Cold War and Vietnam and participated in Honor Flight #27 stated “I would like to give a few reasons why Korea war veterans should take the Honor Flight. Tremendous care is given to see that your needs are well taken care of. People you don’t even know clap for you both here and in D.C. The Korea War Memorial is breathtaking; men on patrol, every uniform and firearm is totally correct. It was truly a moving sight. At Arlington, you see the graves of men who fought in all wars to make men free, in a beautiful green grass setting. The changing of the guard is conducted with precision and military correctness. If you have a spark of patriotism in your heart, you will have moist eyes and your cup will run over”, Steinbeck remarked.

Even if you are unsure about what the future might hold regarding your health or other plans, send in your application so we can contact you.” Honor Flight is currently planning spring flights #31 & #32. Seats for those two flights are filled, however, as applications arrive, veterans are placed on the waiting list by conflict served.
