Fort Wayne International Airport Passes Annual FAA Inspection With Zero Discrepancies For Fourth Year In A Row

Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) has now gone four years without any discrepancies in its annual Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspection. The most recent annual certification inspection took place August 8-10, 2018, and was administered by the FAA Great Lakes Region Airport Certification Safety Inspector.

FWA finished its most recent Part 139 FAA annual inspection on August 10, 2018 after three days of an on-site inspector thoroughly examining all areas of airport operations. This year marks four consecutive years of inspections with no discrepancies found at the airport.

“The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority staff works very hard to make sure that we provide a safe and efficient airfield and airport for our passengers. This is our fourth consecutive year to have zero discrepancies which is a very big accomplishment and much credit is given to the hardworking employees of the Airport Authority.” said Scott Hinderman, Executive Director of Airports.

The comprehensive inspection is administered by a representative of the FAA, and reviews all areas of airport operations including everything from record keeping practices, to movement area inspections, to aircraft rescue and fire response. Discrepancies in these inspections can be found in many areas such as signage and lighting, operational requirements, and the handling and storage of hazardous chemicals. Receiving a discrepancy indicates that the airport may have specific areas within their operations that need reevaluated and addressed.

Following the completion of the inspection, Airport Authority leadership was debriefed and given feedback collected throughout the process. The FAA, which is a division of the United States Department of Transportation, commended FWA for maintaining a clean, and organized campus, as well as the airport’s attention to detail in being a safe and efficiently ran operation.
