Steve Gansey To Return As Fort Wayne Mad Ants Head Coach

The Fort Wayne Mad Ants, presented by Lutheran Health Network, the NBA G League affiliate of the Indiana Pacers, announced today Head Coach Steve Gansey has agreed to a new contract ahead of the 2018-19 season.

“I can’t thank Kevin Pritchard, Chad Buchanan, Peter Dinwiddie and Brian Levy enough for allowing me to continue fostering success and enhancing player development within the Indiana Pacers organization,” Gansey said. “Fort Wayne has been great to me and I am really excited to go back and lead the Mad Ants.”

The 2018-19 season will be Gansey’s fourth-consecutive season leading the Mad Ants. Gansey also served as interim head coach during the 2011-12 season. He has compiled a 79-71 record dating back to taking over in Fort Wayne in 2015.

The Mad Ants finished the 2017-18 season with the second division title in franchise history and the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference under Gansey’s direction.

“We are extremely fortunate to retain Steve as our head coach,” Mad Ants General Manager Brian Levy said. “He is a proven and effective coach, whose steady growth has been a pivotal reason behind the Mad Ants success during his tenure.”

Gansey will coach his first game with the Indiana Pacers summer league team today at 3 p.m. ET on NBA TV.

The Pacers summer league roster includes six players who have dawned a Mad Ants jersey under the tutelage of Gansey: Tra-Deon Hollins, TJ Leaf, Travis Leslie, Ben Moore, Alex Poythress and Edmond Sumner. Indiana’s 2018 first-round selection, Aaron Holiday, as well as second-round pick, Alize Johnson, are also included on the roster.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have Coach Gansey back with our Mad Ants family,” Mad Ants President Tim Bawmann said. “He is the type of person, on and off the court, northeast Indiana will continue to root for as the leader of our franchise.”
