Empower Her World Event Is April 26

Creative Women of the World (CWOW) will host Empower Her World: Kenya & Beyond on Thursday, April 26, 2018. The fundraising event begins at 6 p.m. in the Fort Wayne Woman’s Club at 402 W. Wayne St. in Fort Wayne. In addition to heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and live music, the fourth annual fundraising event will feature an international fashion show including a new spring line. Attendees may purchase the garments that night, bid on live auction items and buy beautiful handmade goods from CWOW’s “Global Marketplace.”

The event is designed to bring awareness to CWOW’s work to empower women both locally and in developing nations. Special guest speaker will be Grace Mwangi, one of CWOW’s first trainees who now trains other women both in her own country of Kenya as well as in Uganda and Malawi. Tickets are $75 per person and may be purchased at https://www.gocwow.org/events/2016/9/29/empower-her-world-2018.

While many may know CWOW as the fair trade boutique located at 125 W. Wayne St., CWOW is also a women’s advocacy group and business training organization, working to help women create sustainable businesses in Fort Wayne and worldwide.

As CWOW Executive Director Lorelei VerLee explains, “As an artist and small business owner, I know the joy and confidence that come from taking a skill and creatively matching it to a market need. We have been privileged to watch the power of creativity work for women from many countries because those women dared to ‘look at what is and imagine what could be.’”
