Community Donates Spring Baskets To Be Given To Children

SCAN, Inc. will accept a large donation of spring baskets from local education institutions and community organizations on Wednesday, March 28, between 10am – 12pm at SCAN’s main office at 500 W. Main Street in downtown Fort Wayne. These spring gifts will be distributed to children of families participating in SCAN’s programs that protect children, prepare parents, strengthen families, and educate our community to Stop Child Abuse and Neglect.

Upon their arrival, the donated spring baskets will be unloaded quickly. We invite the media to join us in our main parking lot off of Main Street at 11:30am on Wednesday, March 28, to see the action involved with this generous donation!

Each year, SCAN receives donations from local organizations to provide children, ages birth to 18 years, with a spring basket made just for them. This year, SCAN anticipates more than 1,000 baskets will be donated by area organizations including IPFW, Ivy Tech – Northeast, TRIN, Inc., Personal Training Institute of Fort Wayne, Indiana State Police Laboratory/Fort Wayne Regional Laboratory, and the University of St. Francis. Each thoughtfully assembled spring basket contains items such as games, toys, coloring books, candy, and other kid-friendly treats.

The families of children receiving baskets are enrolled in SCAN’s programs, such as Daybreak Crisis Homes, which provides free respite care to keep children safe during family emergencies; Healthy Families, which provides free education support to parents with newborns; or Family Preservation services, which repairs families fractured by the trauma of abuse and neglect. In 2017, SCAN was able to provide more than 1,200 baskets to the children of clients in cooperation with our generous donors. The spring basket drive is a picture of our community’s generosity and compassion for helping children.

If you would like more information on how you or your organization can help the children and families in SCAN’s services, please contact Heather Leas, Chief Philanthropy Officer, at 260-421-5000 ext. 2318 or hleas.
