Lutheran Health Physicians Welcomes Five New Providers

Five providers specializing in areas such as trauma surgery, cardiology and electrophysiology have recently joined Lutheran Health Physicians.

Alison Fecher, MD, FACS, is a trauma surgeon who treats patients who have severe, life-threatening blunt force and penetrating injuries.

Dr. Fecher earned her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. She completed a general surgery residency at the Temple University School of Medicine in Pittsburgh and was a bariatric endosurgical fellow at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. She completed a surgical intensive care fellowship at the IU School of Medicine in 2009.

Dr. Fecher previously served as an attending general and trauma surgeon at the Indiana University School of Medicine and Sidney Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. She has completed multiple grant studies and given several presentations on surgical techniques.

Board-certified in surgical critical care and general surgery, Dr. Fecher is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Association of Women Surgeons. She is located in Fort Wayne at 7900 W. Jefferson Blvd., Suite 306.

Nicholas Hammond, PA-C, is a cardiology physician assistant who also has experience in internal medicine and as a hospitalist working at St. Joseph Hospital.

Hammond graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and psychology. In 2006, he earned his master’s degree and physician assistant certification from the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne.

As a cardiology physician assistant, Hammond cares for patients whose conditions can be managed with medications and lifestyle changes. He helps patients with appropriate treatment plans and provides patients with preventive health resources. Hammond is located in Fort Wayne at 7916 W. Jefferson Blvd., on the Lutheran Hospital campus.

Leah Keena, MSN, NP-C, is a cardiology nurse practitioner who has experience in cardiology, palliative medicine and hospice. She also has experience with transplant intensive care that she gained while working in Indianapolis. As a cardiology nurse practitioner, she serves patients whose conditions can be managed with medications and lifestyle changes.

Keena earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Indiana University Bloomington in 2009. In 2012, she graduated as valedictorian of her class at the University of Saint Francis with a Master of Science in Nursing. Keena previously worked as a nurse practitioner for Visiting Nurse Services providing palliative medicine to patients with chronic, life-limiting conditions. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Keena is located in Fort Wayne at 7916 W. Jefferson Blvd.

Jamie Miller, PA-C, assists surgeons as they operate on patients who are critically injured and often suffering from multiple injuries to the colon, pancreas, spleen and/or stomach. She is responsible for care management of all multiple-injury trauma patients, which includes assessment, stabilization, the inpatient stay, discharge and follow-up.

Miller graduated from Missouri State University with bachelor’s degrees in biology and Spanish. In 2017, she earned her master’s in physician assistant studies from Indiana University in Indianapolis.

Before joining Lutheran Health Physicians, Miller spent three years working in the solid organ transplant unit and two years as a medical laboratory assistant at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis.

Miller, who is fluent in Spanish, is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Indiana Academy of Physician Assistants. She is located in Fort Wayne at 7900 W. Jefferson Blvd., Suite 306.

Gail Shively, FNP-C, joined the electrophysiology team after serving as a family nurse practitioner at RediMed Business Health Services. As an electrophysiology nurse practitioner, Shively specializes in diagnosing and treating irregular heart rhythms caused by problems with the heart’s electrical system.

Shively earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing and her master of science in nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University. She has more than 30 years of nursing experience working in northeastern Indiana including time at Whitley County, Goshen and Cameron Memorial hospitals. She also worked as a family nurse practitioner in Churubusco and Fort Wayne.

Shively is located in Fort Wayne at 7916 W. Jefferson Blvd., on the Lutheran Hospital campus.
