Fort Wayne Sport Club To Host 6V6 Soccer Tournament

The 2017 Soctoberfest will be held in Fort Wayne on Friday & Saturday, October 13th & 14th. Fort Wayne Sport Club, located at 3102 Ardmore Ave in Fort Wayne, will host the weekend event. This year marks the 12th anniversary of our Soctoberfest.

The 12th annual Soctoberfest will ‘kick off’ on Friday evening, October 13th, with a 6v6 tournament with play beginning at 6:00 p.m. in both ‘Recreational’ and ‘Competitive’ brackets. Teams can register now at the Fort Wayne Sport Club Clubhouse on Mondays and Wednesdays during Adult Recreational soccer.

The 6v6 tournament entry fee is $60 per team with each team being guaranteed at least three 25 minute games. There will be prizes for the winning teams and lots fun for all. Please come to enjoy the soccer, food and fun. The 6v6 tournament will use a small-sided pitch with small-sided goals. Six players are allowed on the pitch but games will be played with no goalies. There will be no offside nor slide tackling. The first rounds will be round-robin format with the winning teams moving on to the final rounds. Entertainment and refreshments will continue in the Club House following the tournament.

On Saturday, the fun continues with Veterans’ Games beginning at 1:00 p.m. featuring the Club taking on visiting teams from Toledo, Indianapolis and Lansing. These games should be both fun and competitive. The evening will bring German-themed food, fun and refreshments inside the Clubhouse. We will also be selling ½ liter glass boots emblazoned with the Fort Wayne Sport Club logo. The cost will be one boot for $15. This was a limited purchase, so buy yours before they’re all gone.

Please plan on attending to watch the Sport Club teams compete as well as enjoying some food and German beer. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated.

2017 marks the 90th anniversary of the Fort Wayne Sport Club, which was founded in 1927 by an active group of soccer players who immigrated to the Fort Wayne area from Germany in the aftermath of World War I. Their immediate goal was ‘the promotion of football (soccer) and German culture’ in the Northeast Indiana area. Today, the Fort Wayne Sport Club is a hub of soccer activity, with programs for recreational and competitive soccer players from age 4-years to 30-and-over. “We are extremely proud of our long history and heritage of encouraging participation in soccer at all levels throughout the area,” stated Dan Kruse, President of Fort Wayne Sport Club. The Fort Wayne Sport Club is a member of Indiana Soccer, which is the state-wide representative of US Youth Soccer, US Adult Soccer and US Soccer. Since 1992, 61 people have been inducted into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame. Seven of those 61 are Fort Wayne Sport Club members, the most from any club in the state.
