Fort Wayne 9/11 Stair Climb

On the 15-year anniversary of 9/11, community organizers invite you to the 9/11 Stair Climb on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Parkview Field.

The 9/11 Stair Climb is designed to pay tribute and remind us to never forget the events of September 11, 2001. Organized as an untimed walk, participants ascend and descend the stairs of the ballpark.

The mood will be positive and the focus will be remembrance. The hope is the day’s activities will remind us to never forget the lives touch and changed by the events of September 11, 2001. We ask the public to observe this day and reflect and rekindle the spirit of service, tolerance and compassion that unified America and the world in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.

The day will start with opening ceremonies beginning at 9:59 a.m., followed by the Stair Climb beginning at 10:28 a.m. corresponding to the time the North Tower fell.

Participation in the Stair Climb is open to anyone. It will be limited to 403 participants – the number of firefighters and police officers that lost their lives on 9/11. Therefore, preregistration is necessary. All pre-registered climbers will be assigned to organized heat times and will receive a 9/11 Stair Climb memorial t-shirt. Registration for each climber is $10. All proceeds benefit the FWFD/FWPD Fallen Hero Fund.

This 9/11 Stair Climb and Public Safety event is part of a larger effort by Visit Fort Wayne and their “Be a Tourist in Your Hometown”. This annual event provides the public free admission into the downtown attractions/museums beginning at noon. The 9/11 Stair Climb kicks off the day.
