TinCaps Game Notes: Aug. 19 vs. Lake County (Game 124)

Fort Wayne TinCaps (20-33 – T7th, 56-67) vs. Lake County Captains (24-28 – 5th, 64-58)

RHP Jake Nix (2-6, 4.12) vs. RHP Casey Shane (7-10, 4.65)

Friday, Aug. 19 — Parkview Field — First Pitch 7:05 p.m. — Game 124

LAST NIGHT: Dayton topped the TinCaps, 4-0, to complete a four-game sweep in Ohio.

ROSTER MOVES: The Padres today promoted SS Ruddy Giron, a two-year TinCap, to Advanced-A Lake Elsinore and transferred UTIL Tyler Moore to Short-Season Tri-City. In corresponding moves, the Padres moved UTIL Kodie Tidwell back to Fort Wayne from Lake Elsinore and promoted INF Chris Baker from Tri-City.

GOODBYE GIRON: When 18-year old Ruddy Giron joined the TinCaps in mid-May last season, he was not ranked among the Padres’ Top 30 prospects. In his first game with the TinCaps — against Lake County — he posted the first 6-hit game in franchise history since 1993. After a breakout 2015 campaign, Giron began this year ranked as San Diego’s No. 4 prospect. Giron had turned it on of late, batting .284/355/406 with 13 doubles since July 3, when the TinCaps last played the Captains.

ROSTER RECORD: The TinCaps have used a franchise-record 55 players this season, breaking the mark of 54 set with the 2004 Fort Wayne squad. When Baker debuts, he’ll be the 56th player to suit up.

SHUTOUT STREAK: The TinCaps haven’t scored in 23 consecutive innings going back to Tyler Selesky’s solo home run in the 4th inning of Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to Dayton. After being shut out in three of the four games against the Dragons, the TinCaps have now been shut out 15 times, tied for the most in one season in franchise history.

FOUR MONTHS LATER: Lake County is making its second and final trip to Parkview Field this season — and its first since the opening home-and-home series of the season April 9-10. Only 5 current TinCaps (C Austin Allen, RHPs J.C. Cosme and Jake Nix, OF Jhonatan Peña and 1B Brad Zunica) have remained on the active roster since the opening weekend.
