Kingston Residence Hosts “Good Old Days” Event
to Benefit Waynedale Trails
Kingston Residence will host their 9th Annual “Good Old Days ~ Across the Decades” Event on Friday, September 9th from 4 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at 7515 Winchester Road.
Performers Janelle and Jonze will feature songs of the Fifties and Sixties and The Old Fort Model A Car Club will have a number of cars on display. Local Southwest Honey Company will be on hand with live bees and information about their honey products and hives housed at Southwest Conservation Club. Magic Jerry will be performing magic tricks. Kingston Residence will offer corn hole, homemade caramel corn made over an open fire, chicken and noodles and ice cream. An old fashioned apple pie baking contest will be held as well. Kent Castleman from the Fort Wayne Trails and Alex Cornwell, owner of The Waynedale News will be the judges responsible for determining the best apple pie submitted.
The “Good Old Days” is a free event with donations being accepted toward the Waynedale Trails and Sidewalks Initiative (WTSI). This local group has donated over $20,000 toward the design and engineering of both trails and sidewalks slated for Bluffton Road between Lower Huntington and Winchester Roads beginning in 2017. A ramp was installed at the Fairfield/Lower Huntington intersection as part of roadway improvements last year. The ramp intersects with the St. Mary’s Pathway that runs through Foster Park to Tillman Park.
Committee chair and Kingston Marketing Director, Camille Garrison states that “the ramp has been very popular this year. The WTSI adopted a two mile section of the trail and as we have been on litter detail we have seen a very consistent amount of foot and bicycle traffic. Many people are enjoying the safe and easy access to the trails. As a bonus, our Waynedale businesses are also seeing increased walk in customers.”
