LAST NIGHT: The TinCaps were down 3-1 with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth before rallying to walk off with a 4-3 victory over South Bend. First baseman Brad Zunica hit a game-tying two-run single to tie it. Then Cubs third baseman Jesse Hodges threw away a Kyle Overstreet chopper that allowed the game-winning run to score.

SELLOUT COUNT: Thursday’s crowd of 7,112 marked the sixth sell-out crowd of the season at Parkview Field.

WALK-OFF WINS: The TinCaps now have 2 walk-off wins this year. Fort Wayne walked off against Peoria in 10 innings on April 26.

CALL IT A COMEBACK: Thursday was the third consecutive game against South Bend, and 13th time overall this season, the TinCaps came from behind to win. Fort Wayne has won 5 contests when trailing at the end of 8 innings.

SWEEP: The TinCaps’ sweep of South Bend was the first time this season Fort Wayne has swept a 3-game series.

TIDWELL’S TEAR: Kodie Tidwell is on a career-long 14-game on-base streak after singling on Thursday. He’s 17-for-53 (.321 average) over the stretch with 2 HR, 1 3B, 5 2B, 9 R, 7 RBI, and 5 SB. It’s sprung his batting average 58 points and more than doubled his extra-base hit total from his first 28 games this year. During the streak, Tidwell has played 2B, 3B, SS, LF, and DH-ed.

BRINGING PEÑA TO OPPONENTS: Jhonatan Peña continued his recent hot streak with a 3-for-4 performance Thursday that included a ninth-inning double to set up the comeback win. Since May 21, the 22-year-old has raised his batting average 71 points. Over the last 9 games, Peña is 15-for-35 (.429) with 1 HR, 3 2B, and 11 RBI. He’s tied with South Bend’s Ian Rice for the most RBIs in the MWL during this time after having a total of 3 RBI in his first 27 games of the season. Peña has spent most of the year in the bottom third of the order, but batted fifth last night and is slotted sixth this evening.
