LAST NIGHT: The Whitecaps claimed the opener in the four-game series with a 3-1 victory thanks to runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. The TinCaps rallied in the bottom of the ninth with four hits, and Carlos Belen scored on an RBI groundout by Michael Gettys. However, two batters later, Kodie Tidwell singled and Whitecaps right fielder Jose Azocar threw out Brad Zunica at the plate.

BELEN BASHING: TinCaps 3B Carlos Belen is in the midst of a season-long five-game hitting streak. Over that stretch, he’s hitting .353 (6-for-17) with five runs scored. The 20-year old from the Dominican Republic has an extra-base hit in each of those five games (three doubles and two triples).

The TinCaps have also had six games decided by two runs, meaning 59 percent of their games have been one- or two-run affairs. Fort Wayne also has nine come-from-behind wins.

WINGIN’ IT: TinCaps reliever Trey Wingenter still hasn’t allowed an earned run in 2016. The righty made two appearances with Advanced-A Lake Elsinore and fanned five in three innings. Wingenter has logged five appearances out of the bullpen with the TinCaps and has struck out 11. Armed with a fastball that’s been clocked as high as 97 MPH this season, Wingenter has 16 strikeouts in 10 innings.
