TinCaps Game Notes: May 17 vs. Lansing (Game 38)

Fort Wayne TinCaps (19-18) vs. Lansing Lugnuts (18-16)

RHP J.C. Cosme (3-2, 3.81) vs. LHP Tayler Saucedo (1-4, 6.08)

Tuesday, May 17 — Parkview Field — First Pitch 7:05 p.m. — Game 38

SUNDAY: Walker Lockett had the longest start of the season for a TinCaps pitcher (7.0 innings), but Fort Wayne lost, 1-0, at West Michigan. The Whitecaps scored the only run of the game in the 7th.

ROSTER MOVES: Today the Padres transferred Walker Lockett from Fort Wayne to the Advanced-A Lake Elsinore Storm. Lockett is the current MWL leader in innings pitched (45.0). He posted a 3.00 ERA in 8 starts as he struck out 29 and only walked 8. In turn, the TinCaps have received left-handed pitcher Thomas Dorminy from Lake Elsinore. Dorminy was a MWL All-Star in 2015. He finished the year with a 2.94 ERA in 25 starts.

HOME IS WHERE THE WINS ARE: The TinCaps are 10-5 at Parkview Field this season. However, Fort Wayne is tied with Lake County for having played the fewest home games in the Eastern Division. The TinCaps have had to play 7 more games on the road than at home. Coupled with weather woes, Fort Wayne hasn’t played a 9-inning game at home since April 29.

AMONG THE BEST: TinCaps are among the Midwest League leaders in the following categories…

· Batting Average: Austin Allen (.381) — 2nd

· On-Base Percentage: Austin Allen (.465) — 2nd

· Games: Michael Gettys (36) — T-1st

· Runs: Michael Gettys (23) — T-45h

· Stolen Bases: Michael Gettys (15) — 2nd

ALUMNI NEWS: The Padres promoted reliever Tayron Guerrero to the big league roster from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday. Guerrero, a 6-8 righty, was a MWL All-Star for the TinCaps in 2014 when he struck out 42 batters in 36.0 innings. Guerrero, a native of Colombia, also pitched briefly in Fort Wayne in April 2013. Guerrero is the 148th former Wizard or TinCap to reach the show.

ON THIS DAY: In 1998, David Wells threw a perfect game for the Yankees against the Twins in New York. The losing pitcher was former Fort Wayne Wizard LaTroy Hawkins. Minnesota’s lineup also included former Wizards Matt Lawton (CF) and Javier Valentin (C).
