ABOUT YESTERDAY AFTERNOON: The TinCaps beat the Clinton LumberKings, 4-2. Michael Gettys hit his first home run of the season in the second to give Fort Wayne a 2-0 lead. Ty France and Peter Van Gansen delivered run-scoring hits in the third and fifth, respectively. On the mound, Walker Lockett tossed 5 scoreless innings for the win.

ON THIS DAY: In 1871, the Fort Wayne Kekiongas hosted the Cleveland Forest Citys in what is considered the first Major League game ever played. Fort Wayne won, 2-0. The game was played at the Kekionga Ball Grounds, according to Bill Griggs and Jim Nitz of the SABR (Society for American Baseball Research) Kekionga Chapter of Fort Wayne.

MAY THE FOURTH: The TinCaps will host their annual Star Wars Night at Parkview Field on Friday, June 17.

ALUMNI REPORT: The Atlanta TinCaps Braves beat the Mets in New York on Tuesday, 3-0, as former TinCap Matt Wisler ‘12 outdueled Matt Harvey. Wisler tossed 8 innings with only 1 hit and 2 walks allowed. He struck out 4. Meanwhile, 2013-14 TinCaps center fielder Mallex Smith hit his first major league home run. Catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who played for the Wizards in ‘95 and ‘96, added 2 hits. (2012 second baseman Jace Peterson had the night off.)

CHANCE TO SWEEP: The TinCaps have a chance to sweep their first 3-game series of the season today. The last time Fort Wayne swept a 3-game series on the road was Aug. 31-Sept. 1, 2014 at Bowling Green. (That sweep ended the regular season and propelled the TinCaps into the playoffs.)
