Housing Rehabilitation Programs

Brightpoint (formerly Community Action of Northeast Indiana or CANI) announces the opening of two housing rehabilitation programs for low- to moderate-income homeowners. These programs will provide homeowners with the opportunity to address home repairs and accessibility modifications. For some, this will make it possible for them to continue to live in their own homes.

The Neighborhood Impact Program is for home owners who are low to moderate-income and could use assistance with the following home repairs: HVAC, septic/well/sewer, roofing/soffit/fascia, gutters/downspouts, siding, water heating, exterior doors, windows, insulation/weather stripping/ caulking, and basement waterproofing.

The Accessibility Modifications Program is for home owners who are age 62 or older or who have a household resident who is permanently disabled, are low- to moderate-income and could use assistance with the following home repairs: ramp/zero-step entry, handrails, doors/handles/hinges, bathroom modifications, kitchen modifications, chair/wheelchair lifts, doorway widening, smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, and universal design floor coverings.

For both programs, applicants must meet income requirements, own a stand-alone home (not mobile- or trailer-home), be current on their mortgage (if applicable), and not have any liens against their property. These programs are available in the following counties: Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Elkhart, Grant, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, LaPorte, Noble, St. Joseph, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, and Whitley. Interested homeowners may call Brightpoint for an application at 260-423-3546 ext. 255. After completing an application, they can schedule an appointment.
