Community Leaders Get Inside Look at Schools

Local business and community leaders will have an opportunity to learn more about the educational programs offered at Fort Wayne Community Schools during the third annual Seeing is Believing Tour Wednesday, April 13.

Greater Fort Wayne Inc. and the Fort Wayne Area PTA Council partnered with the FWCS Board of School Trustees to provide a bus tour of the district with stops at two schools – FWCS Career Academy at Anthis and Memorial Park Middle School. The leaders will visit the Career Academy at 1200 S. Barr St. first, hearing about the many programs offered to students throughout the region. At 10:40 a.m., they will board an Excursions Trailways bus and head to Memorial Park where they will learn more about FWCS’ arts magnet programs, as well as the rigorous curriculum offered in all FWCS buildings.

“We appreciate community leaders taking the time to step away from their offices and visit our school buildings,” FWCS Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson said. “It is often difficult for people to understand the complexity of what takes place in our classrooms every day without seeing it for yourself. We know that seeing is believing.”

John Urbahns, executive vice president of economic development for Greater Fort Wayne Inc., said the event is a great opportunity for business leaders.

“The Seeing is Believing tour gives our business community the opportunity to see first-hand how students are being prepared for their futures,” he said. “The Fort Wayne Community Schools system is preparing these students to become our future employees, managers, business owners and citizens.”

Seats are still available for anyone interested in attending. Please contact Melanie Hall at 467-2020, if you are interested.
