Big Brothers Big Sisters Board Member & Ex-Officio Board President Doug Schenkel will host a free private viewing of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” at 4:30 pm this Saturday, March 26 at Carmike Jefferson Pointe 18 for local area children enrolled in programs offered by Big Brother Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana (BBBSNEI). The BBBSNEI matches are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite superheroes to enjoy the movie with complimentary sodas and popcorn. Sponsored by Burton Vosmeier & Looney Financial Advisory Group, the McArdle Family & the Jeff Potter Family, this free event is a component of Schenkel’s campaign to become the 2016 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Man of the Year.

A long time Board Member for BBBSNEI and a current member of the National Leadership Council (NLC) at Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Schenkel exhibits an extraordinary commitment to helping children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships with measurable impact. Through his participation in the LLS Man of the Year campaign, Schenkel shows that he is not only invested children’s futures, but also in saving lives through LLS funded research and therapies. Schenkel’s 10-week fundraising campaign aims to raise as much as possible to support LLS research, patient services, advocacy, public & professional education and community services. Each year in communities across the country, dedicate candidates engage in an exciting competition to earn The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Man & Woman of the Year” titles. By raising funds for LLS blood cancer research, the candidates compete in honor of local children who have beat blood cancer and are deemed the “Boy & Girl of the Year.”

Selected from a list of nominees, candidates for the title form their own teams and use their contacts and creativity to raise funds for the LLS. Every dollar raised counts as one vote and the titles are award to the man and woman with the most votes at the end of the 10-week campaign. Top local fundraisers become eligible to win the national titles. The regional campaign runs through Thursday, May 19 at 6:00 pm.
