Mental Health America in Allen County, one of the area’s leading providers of mental health education, advocacy, and awareness since 1954, will be changing its name effective immediately. The organization’s new name will be Mental Health America of Northeast Indiana.
Mental Health America of Northeast Indiana is dedicated to helping members of the community who face mental health challenges. The organization wants to ensure that these members of the community are supported and gain access to the resources they need to improve their mental well-being. This is done through client advocacy, educational trainings and events, guardianships, and support groups.
The change in the organization’s name has been made due to its growing influence and effect in this region. According to Executive Director Lisa Smith, “We want to provide our services to the entire region. We hope that our new name reflects that willingness and desire to help a broader community across Northeast Indiana.” Mental Health America of Northeast Indiana will serve Allen, Adams, DeKalb, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, and Whitley counties.
The organization has also experienced internal growth this past year. As Smith explained, “Our staff has doubled in size, and we are eager to start and develop new programs. We hope that with our larger, enthusiastic staff we can make this region a better place to live for those with mental illness.”
