Science Central turns twenty on Thursday, November 5 and will hold a special birthday party from 4:00-6:00 p.m. during which time the popular science center located at 1950 N. Clinton St. will be open to the public free of charge. This festival-type atmosphere will include cake, face-painting and more, all while visitors enjoy more than 100 fun and interactive science exhibits, Science On a Sphere and the temporary traveling exhibition, "Amazing Maize."
To cap off this fun day, Science Central will hold a special lighting ceremony of its iconic colored smokestacks, thanks to a generous donation from Fort Wayne Metals, countless individual donations from the public, and the professional installation of the environmentally-friendly LED lighting from 1B Specialty Lighting. Beginning shortly after 6:00 p.m., a public lighting ceremony will take place in the parking lot of Science Central culminating in the lighting of the five colored smokestacks atop the historic City Light and Power building. These colored smokestacks will remain lit every night and provide a reminder to the important role Science Central plays in providing inspiring and fun hands-on science education for people of all ages.
