The Deer Park Irish Pub will be hosting its sixth annual Craft Beer Festival, Saturday, September 26h, 1 to 5 p.m. The festival has been organized to provide a forum for nationally-known craft brewers to celebrate their art and tradition with local beer enthusiasts, says Deer Park Pub owner Tony Henry.

“We’ll be building on the success of our first five craft beer festivals,” Henry says. “Only at our annual craft beer festival will Fort Wayne have so many of the country’s finest craft beers tapped in one place, at one time,” Henry says. “Craft beer connoisseurs will enjoy four hours of beer tasting from a selection of more than 50 craft and home brews… they’ll think they have died and gone to beer heaven.”

Among the dozens of well-known (if not aptly named) micro-brews on tap will be “Arrogant Bastard,” “Bell’s Oktoberfest,” “green Flash,” and “Okto Festival Ale,” Henry says. The microbreweries represented include Bell’s Brewery of Kalamazoo, MI.; Three Floyds of Munster, IN.; Bloomington, Indiana’s Upland Brewery; Sierra Nevada Brewery of Chico, California, Widmer Brothers of Portland, OR and many more. This year, it appears, many Home Brewers are coming out of their garages to bring

their hand craft beers.

Henry and the Deer Park crew are upping the ante this year by welcoming the local bakery Sweets So Geek to help patrons perfectly pair their ice cream with the several selections of craft beers available. There will also be fresh burgers, German brats and signature Bush’s® baked beans available for purchase.

In addition, Riegel’s Pipe & Tobacco will be hosting a cigar table featuring fine, imported cigars.

“After all,” Henry quips, “what better way to complement a fine craft beer than with a good imported cigar?”

Admission to the event is $25 in advance or $35 at the door. Those in attendance must be 21 and over, but pets are welcome to accompany their owners. Henry said proceeds from the festival will go to the Miss. Virginia Food Pantry. The pantry provides food for the working poor and unemployed.

Music will be provided by “Finding Friday.”
