Summer Of Glass 2015 At Fort Wayne Museum Of Art

For the third summer, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art is exhibiting a trio of exhibitions with nearly 100 works of the most exciting contemporary studio glass in the world, this year featuring a solo exhibition by Christina Bothwell, works by Dale Chihuly and his contemporaries, and the winners of the 43rd International Studio Glass Invitational from Habatat Gallery in Michigan.

Each of the three exhibitions in the Summer of Glass illustrates the artisanal roots of this gorgeous art form and intends to break down the barriers between high art and craft, and underscore the relationship of art and craft to daily life and culture, our natural environment, and the spiritual realm.

Christina Bothwell: Spirit Into Matter is a solo show that will feature dream-like figures in glass and stone, each transcending this reality into another existence that calls us to contemplate birth, life, death, and renewal. Chihuly: Legend and Legacy is a group show celebrating Dale Chihuly for his world renowned glass sculptures and as a living legend of the American studio glass movement. This exhibit features sculptures and drawings by Chihuly, as well as work by those he influenced over the past few decades. The 43rd International Studio Glass Invitational is a selection of the world’s most brilliantly executed studio glass. Organized by Habatat Galleries, this exhibition is the oldest and largest annual contemporary glass show in the country. Selected from an array of glass masters, this exhibition features the best studio glass artists in the world.
