On Thursday, June 4th, participants in Science Central’s 12th Annual Golf Classic will find a new twist to the traditional Florida Scramble format when participants will have the opportunity to take one of their shots using an air compression gun, which can launch a golf ball over 300 yards on the course.
The air compression gun will be used on Hole #1 at Pine Valley Country Club at this Thursday’s event, which tees off at 12:30 p.m. Teams wishing to use the gun for their shot on the hole will pay a premium, giving each team member one shot with the gun.
In addition to the air compression gun shot, golfers will also be involved in experiments utilizing liquid nitrogen, including sampling ice cream made with the frosty element. The course will also be decked out with signage containing golf science facts, with a different fact presented at each hole. "This just goes to show you that science is in everything, including the game of golf." said Martin S. Fisher, Executive Director of Science Central. "Biology, physics, metallurgy and engineering, all of these fields play a role in golf. We are excited to demonstrate these science connections … and have fun while doing it."
The 12th Annual Golf Classic is presented by ch2m.
