Heritage Park Hosting Flag Day Parade

Heritage Park will host its second annual parade in recognition of Flag Day on Saturday, June 13 in Fort Wayne. This year’s Grand Marshal will be local celebrity Sandy Thompson.

Other parade participants include veterans of Heritage Park and their families, the Fort Wayne Fire Department, Uncle Sam, Betsy Ross, The Statue of Liberty, The American Eagle, ponies, classic cars, clowns and others.

The Flag Day Parade begins at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13th on State Street and Hobson Road. The route will follow Hobson Road to Lake Avenue. After the parade, the crowd is invited to the courtyard of Heritage Park, located at 2001 Hobson Road, to witness a flag raising.

Flag Day has been observed since the 1880s and is the day for promoting patriotism and respect for the American flag. This holiday also recognizes the day the Continental Congress adopted the Star and Stripes. It was officially established in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson and was officially recognized by an act of Congress in August of 1949.

Heritage Park is one of nine Fort Wayne area communities operated by American Senior Communities. For more information about the event or about Heritage Park, please call Lisa Adams, 260-433-1409.
