TinCaps Game Notes: May 11 vs. Lake County (Game 28)

Fort Wayne TinCaps (10-17) vs. Lake County Captains (15-15)

LHP Thomas Dorminy (2-2, 4.05) vs. RHP Jordan Milbrath (0-4, 7.61)

Monday, May 11, 2015 — Parkview Field — First Pitch 7:05 p.m. — Game 28

ABOUT LAST GAME: The TinCaps won in walk-off fashion on Saturday defeating the Lansing Lugnuts, 5-4. With Nick Torres leading off third base in the bottom of the tenth, pinch-hitter Edwin Moreno dropped a perfect suicide squeeze bunt up the first base line that plated the winning run. It was the second walk-off win of the year for Fort Wayne. Previously on April 16th, Felipe Blanco cracked a game winning double in the bottom of the tenth inning to beat the South Bend Cubs, 7-6.

THIRD TIME’S THE CHARM FOR DJ?: Duanel Jones drilled home runs on back-to-back nights against Lansing on Friday and Saturday. If he homers on Monday against Lake County, it would be the first time a Fort Wayne player recorded a home run in three consecutive games since Alberth Martinez accomplished the feat in May of 2013. Jones’ power has been on display lately. He’s second in the Midwest League in slugging percentage (.554) and tied for second in home runs (5).

MORENO GOES NEXT LEVEL: Edwin Moreno drove in his ninth RBI of the year on Saturday in just his 19th game. He’s already surpassed his total of 7 from last season that came in 37 games.

TORRES STREAKING: Nick Torres has hit safely in ten straight games dating back to April 30. It’s his second hit-streak of nine or more games this year. The Lakewood, California native hit safely the first nine games of the year (April 12-20). In fact, he is one of just two players in the Midwest League with multiple hit-streaks of nine or more games. Torres also recorded his team-best 13th multi-hit game on Saturday. He leads the Midwest League in runs scored (23), is tied for second in hits (36) and doubles (9), and is fourth in batting average (.343).
