Fort Wayne Children’s Choir To Host 5th Annual Do Re Mi

The Fort Wayne Children’s Choir (FWCC) will host the 5th Annual Do Re Mi: A Dinner and Music Review on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 6 PM in the International Ballroom on the IPFW campus. This event introduces attendees to the organization’s greatest asset: the professionally trained singers of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir. Over 300 children are involved in the choir’s programs and participate in dozens of performances each year that reach a live audience of thousands.

Do Re Mi will once again be a fun-filled evening of music and entertainment. This is an opportunity to ensure that the gift of music education will be available to all children who desire to be a part of it. In addition to hearing performances from several FWCC ensembles, attendees will hear from alumni of the organization and other community leaders on how a quality music education affected their lives. After all, many people who study music do not grow up to be professional musicians. Support of FWCC is an investment in the future of our community as a whole. This year’s special alumni speaker and performer is FWCC alumni Fernando Tarango. Dinner and complimentary beer and wine will be provided by Shigs ‘n Pit.

New this year and to recognize supporters who go above and beyond to nurture our organization, FWCC has established an annual award to be presented at this event. The Irene Ator Choral Excellence Award honors an individual, family, or business in our community that embodies the mission of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir through a lifelong commitment to exemplary choral music education. Recipients of this award are recognized for their devotion to the FWCC as a volunteer, advocate, friend, and mentor, leading by example and exhibiting unwavering dedication to music education.

We are honored to bestow the first award to its namesake, Irene Ator, Artistic Assistant and Principal Accompanist, now in her 17th year with FWCC. Irene is passionate about making beautiful music with our singers, and she finds true joy in collaborating with talented young people. She has enriched the lives of thousands of young singers in our community, not just through her role with FWCC, but as an involved community musician. She supports our mission through her gifts of time, talent, and treasure, and FWCC would not be what it is today without her.
