The dream of a salon for the women and children of Charis House has become a reality. Charis House (431 Fairmount Place), the women and children’s ministry of The Rescue Mission, will be holding the grand opening and dedication of “Beauty for Ashes” on Wednesday at 2pm.
“Thanks to some outstanding volunteers and donors, and the hard work of our staff, Beauty for Ashes has opened its doors to the women and children at Charis House,” said Laurie Brumbaugh, VP of Development at The Rescue Mission. “Something as simple as a haircut helps to restore dignity to those we serve.”
The Biblical name comes from Isaiah 61:3, “…He will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair…”
The salon, which has been opened for a few months, is maintained by volunteer, certified beauticians from the community.
Wednesday’s celebration includes a brief dedication and ribbon cutting, with refreshments and fellowship to follow.
The media is encouraged to attend. Staff and volunteer stylists will be available for interviews.
