Honor Flight Northeast Indiana (HFNEI) will make its 24th flight to Washington D.C. on Wednesday, May 24.
Flight #24 currently consists of a total of 85 veterans: 11 are WWII, 71 Korea, and three Vietnam. There are four dual war veterans and one triple war veteran. There will also be two female veterans on board, one WWII and one Korea.
Brothers Jerry and Larry Rensberger will be traveling on the flight; Larry was USMC Korea, Cold War, and Vietnam while Jerry served as Army Korea. Husband and wife veterans, Richard Renbarger (USMC) and Marilyn Renbarger (Army), both Korea War veterans, are also participating.
Honor Flight President Dennis Covert states “Honor Flight Northeast Indiana is pleased to continue our mission to safely transport veterans to Washington, D. C. to view their memorials. Presently our veteran waiting list consists of over 600 Veterans.”
The veterans and volunteer guardians will gather at the 122nd Air National Guard Fighter Wing at 6:00 a.m. with take-off projected to be at 8:30 a.m. Returning home, the community is encouraged to patriotically welcome the veterans in the Main Terminal of the Fort Wayne International Airport the evening of May 24th. Return time is tentative, but expected to be at approximately 8:30 p.m. More information regarding the public’s participation and return timing will be shared on the group’s Facebook page at HFNEI.
95% of all donations go directly towards the veterans’ trips. Honor Flight NE Indiana, Inc. is a volunteer, nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization. Donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. As of April 26, 2017, Honor Flight Northeast has transported 1624 veterans to Washington, D. C.
