TinCaps Game Notes: May 8 vs. Wisconsin (Game 31)

Fort Wayne TinCaps (11-19) vs. Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (12-15)

RHP Jesse Scholtens (3.14) vs. RHP Braden Webb (5.28)

Monday, May 8, 2017— Parkview Field — First Pitch 7:05 p.m. — Game 31

YESTERDAY AFTERNOON: The TinCaps lost the rubber match of their series at Cedar Rapids, 4-1. The Kernels put up a pair in the second and added 2 more in the fifth. Fort Wayne’s only run came on a Fernando Tatis Jr. RBI single in the sixth.

ROSTER MOVES (ON): Today the Padres reinstated outfielder Jorge Oña from Fort Wayne’s Disabled List. Oña had been out since sustaining a mild quad strain on April 23 at Great Lakes as he was running out a groundball. In addition, utility man Nate Easley and right-handed pitcher Jose Galindo have joined the TinCaps from Extended Spring Training in Arizona. (See the following pages for more.)

ROSTER MOVES (OFF): Right-handed pitcher Evan Miller (the former Fort Wayne Mastodon), utility man Tyler Selesky, and Alan Garcia have been transferred to Extended Spring Training.

PADRES HERE: The following members of San Diego’s Player Development Staff are here… Assistant Director, Player Development Ben Sestanovich,Coordinator of Instruction Ryley Westman, and Pitching Coordinator Mark Prior.

TOUGH SCHEDULE: The TinCaps have played as many away games (18) as anyone in the MWL so far, including 13 of their last 17. While Fort Wayne has won 4 of its last 6 at home, the team is 5-13 on the road. The TinCaps have pitched much better at home (2.70 ERA) than away (5.49 ERA).

LATE NIGHTS: The TinCaps arrived back from Cedar Rapids around 2 a.m. — about the same time the Yankees scored in the top of the 18th inning at Wrigley Field in their 5-4 win over the Cubs. While that was the longest MLB game so far this year, the South Bend Cubs beat the Clinton LumberKings in 19(!) innings on Saturday (well, it started on Friday, but was suspended at 1 a.m. Saturday morning because of the league’s curfew rule).

LEAGUE LEADERS: Fernando Tatis Jr. is 2nd in the MWL in games played (29)… Jack Suwinski is tied for 3rd in games played (28) and is 4th in walks (20)… Brad Zunica is tied for 3rd in home runs (6) and 5th in walks (18)… Eguy Rosario is tied for 6th in doubles (8) and 9th in stolen bases (7).

AS A TEAM: In the MWL, the TinCaps have drawn the 2nd most walks (121; 4/G) and have the 2nd most stolen bases (29).

ON THE OTHER SIDE: Wisconsin’s roster features 6 Top 30 Brewers prospects, per MLB.com… RHP Marcos Diplan (No. 11), SS Gilbert Lara (No. 17), OF Monte Harrison (No. 22), C Mario Feliciano (No. 23), OF Demi Orimoloye (No. 24), and RHP Trey Supak (No. 29).
