Fort Wayne Community Schools, in partnership with RemedyLIVE, Crosswinds and the Fraternal Order of Police, is offering parents an opportunity to learn about the mobile applications their children may be using and the risks they may pose. The free session will be offered at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the FWCS Family and Community Engagement Center, 230 E. Douglas Ave.

“Dangerous Mobile Apps,” presented by Clinton Faupel, the co-founder and executive director of RemedyLIVE, addresses the changing world of mobile apps and the way crimes are being committed. Guest speakers include FBI Special Agent Jeffrey Robertson, Detective Chris McCarty of the Fort Wayne Police Department, and Crista Miller, a Fort Wayne mother whose daughter was the victim of human trafficking as a result of communicating with traffickers via a mobile application.

“It is important that parents understand the applications their children are using and how they can turn from a useful tool or a fun way to communicate with friends to a dangerous place where predators find victims,” said Debra Faye Williams-Robbins, FWCS Chief Officer of Family, Student and Community Engagement. “This session will provide parents with the tools they need to keep their children safe.”

Apps that will be discussed include social media, texting and chat room applications. Faupel will also share how parents can monitor how their children are using these apps and who they are communicating with in these forums.

This session is free and open to the public.
