Giving Tuesday

Redeemer Radio has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways.

Redeemer Radio exists in order to positively influence the lives of others by encouraging involvement with the Catholic Faith, educating Catholics on the Faith, and teaching the Catholic community at large to imitate Jesus. For these reasons, it only makes sense that Redeemer Radio should join the #GivingTuesday movement, and remind the community that this season is about altruism, not materialism. The incoming Advent season means we are celebrating the birth of Our Savior – donations received help keep His Word on the air.

Says Acting Executive Director Mike Landrigan: “Our Constitution enumerates three "unalienable rights", Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Today many people are actively seeking Happiness and yet, that joy may remain elusively out of reach. At Redeemer Radio, we provide an opportunity for people to learn about alternatives that help transform people from focusing on their personal needs, to looking a a larger picture and service to others. There is truly joy, fulfillment and contentment that is experienced when your focus becomes more on the needs of others and less on yourself. We help people recognize the age old wisdom of the Catholic Church and understanding why the Church presents those teachings. In the process, listeners find peace, comfort, solace and joy. We’ve heard about suicides that are considered and then not acted upon, marriages that are saved, women who have decided not to abort, the joy of new parents who have just adopted and the relief and comfort of the sinner who has returned to the Church. Your contributions help us continue our important work by continuing our broadcasts and developing new programming that delves into issues that positively impact society, families and individuals. We strongly believe that we are the New Evangelization that the Church has called for from her members.”

In 2014, the third year of the movement, #GivingTuesday brought together 30,000 partners in 68 countries and registered 32.7 million impressions on Twitter, with its eponymous hashtag mentioned 698,600 times. Since 2012, online giving on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving ha increased more than four-fold, based on findings by Blackbaud and the Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, produced in partnership with the Case Foundation.
