The University of Saint Francis will be hosting its annual Constitution Day event on Thursday, September 15, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the USF North Campus Auditorium, 2702 Spring Street.
This year’s speaker is Geoff Paddock, Fort Wayne city councilman, 5th District, and executive director of Headwaters Park. He will speak on “Senator Birch Bayh and the U.S. Constitution.”
Paddock will discuss Senator Bayh’s devotion to the Constitution and his role in authoring four constitutional amendments, two of which became law. He will also examine Senator Bayh’s successful opposition to the Supreme Court nominations of Clement F. Haynsworth and G. Harold Carswell in 1969 and 1970 and will compare that process to the current controversial Supreme Court nomination process of Merrick Garland.
Along with Paddock’s presentation, USF will be hosting a voter registration campaign. Students and members of the community are invited to register to vote before or after the presentation in the USF North Campus Auditorium foyer.
